Paper Mario: Sticker Star is one of those things that simply remembering that it exists makes me kind of angry. It was so disappointing and so boring to play that I couldn’t even be asked to finish it. There are only a few positive things that I have to say about it – it’s music being one of them, like this track.

Six Nintendo Franchises That Should Get Anime Adaptations
So, yeah, remember several months ago when I wrote an article about what Nintendo franchises should get movie adaptations? Well, if a recent interview with Nintendo’s President is anything to go by, Nintendo will also be expanding into other markets – including anime.
For years, fans could only dream of seeing their favourite Nintendo characters appear in this format (with many fan artists having their own goes at it). Of course, it’s not like Nintendo are inexperienced in this kind of thing. Let’s never forget the Mario and Legend of Zelda cartoons, but the quality of those shows were… questionable at best and flat out terrible at worst. Hopefully, in this modern era, Nintendo can make the right choices to create new adventures for its beloved characters.
For now, though, let’s open the floodgates for discussion as I list some franchises that I think would make either great or, at the very least, enjoyable anime. Continue reading
My VG Music Picks #20 – Skyloft (Hyrule Warriors)
If I wasn’t a Legend of Zelda fan by the time Hyrule Warriors came out, I probably would’ve been after sampling it because, my God, it looked awesome and managed to live up to said awesomeness. This included possibly the most metal soundtrack we’d ever hear in a Zelda game. Continue reading
My VG Music Picks #19 – Star Wolf (Star Fox 64)
I’m honestly not a Star Fox fan. Nothing against the series; it just doesn’t interest me. But if there’s one thing I’m glad that exists because of this series, it’s this piece of music. Continue reading
Five Nintendo Franchises That Should Get Movies
Videogame movies. We’ve all seen at least one and they have tended to range from passable to “Oh God this film is stabbing me in the soul and makes me want to vomit up my own intestines.” It’s probably for these reasons that Nintendo has very much kept its beloved characters away from the silver screen (though the failure that was the Super Mario Bros. movie probably helped).
Opinion on whether this is a good or bad thing seems split but with Shigeru Miyamoto’s recent announcement of them considering possible film adaptations, this naturally calls for speculation. So, here are five Nintendo franchises that I think could lend well to becoming films. Continue reading
My VG Music Picks #17 – Majora’s Theme (The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask)
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is probably a contender for creepiest Zelda game ever; something I think many of its fans will attest to. There are plenty of perfect examples for why that is so here’s a musical one: the theme for the game’s main villain, Majora. Continue reading
My VG Music Picks #15 – Cloudtop Cruise (Mario Kart 8)
Mario Kart 8 has possibly got the best soundtrack of the series; partly down to the superb orchestra (I love me some orchestras). Each track lends itself so well to their respective courses and helps make them feel more alive. But for me, and no doubt many others, one of the best tracks is Cloudtop Cruise’s music.
My VG Music Picks #14 – Pyrite Town (Pokémon Colosseum)
If I had to pick one track that best summed up Pokémon Colosseum, it’d probably be this one: the theme that plays during your visits to Pyrite Town, one of the most plot-important locations in the game. The people behind Pokémon Colosseum tried to make a title that was more story-driven and more mature and while we can debate whether it succeeded or not, I think we can all agree this theme is pretty dang good. Continue reading
My VG Music Picks #12 – We Can’t Lose! (Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga)
Despite my love for the Mario & Luigi series of RPGs, I had only recently managed to finally beat the very first entry: Superstar Saga for the GBA; a game that came out 12 years ago (look I’m slow, alright). I honestly consider it the weakest game in the series; something I know a lot of people will disagree with me on, but I won’t deny the charm it had. It had a great script, an interesting new world, fun combat and, of course, good music. Continue reading
My VG Music Picks #10 – DK Rap (Donkey Kong 64)
(originally posted April 24th 2015)
When people talk about videogame music, it’s usually the tracks that inspire them; the tracks that get an emotion out of them or even tracks that cause nostalgia. This track does none of those things – it’s just frigging stupid, and that’s why I love it. Continue reading
