It’s been four years since my first “Ten Characters I Want in Super Smash Bros.” list and, boy, how things have changed since then. Back then, those choices were the whimsical wishes of a young dreamer, unlikely to ever come true. But now, thanks to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it seems anything is possible. Hell, two of my picks have since been included, which is very vindicating, though one part of that list has aged horribly.

“… [Yu Narukami] does stand a better chance than Ridley.”

Oh, 21 year-old me, you were such a fool. But yes, between the likes of Ridley, King K. Rool, and Joker, I’ve found myself coming to accept that characters I would’ve initially scoffed at the mere suggestion of including could actually happen. Super Smash Bros. is no longer just a celebration of all things Nintendo, but of videogames as a whole.

So, with the current run of DLC nearing its conclusion and still more to come throughout 2020, how about I list off another ten characters I’d personally love to see get to join the roster, whether it be in Ultimate or in a possible sequel. Continue reading

Ten Characters I Want in Dragon Ball FighterZ

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the following:

Dragon Ball FighterZ
Dragon Ball Super
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
Dragon Ball Z

I’m not the biggest Dragon Ball Z fan (in fact, I’ve never watched a single episode of any of the various anime series) but even I couldn’t help but look at Dragon Ball FighterZ – a fighting game developed by Arc System Works – and think “Damn, this game looks cool. I want it.” And so I got it, and while I’ll probably never be “good” at it, it’s still a lot of fun to play casually.

So with the recent announcement that ‘Season 2′ will begin this year, which will no doubt see more of this series’ eclectic cast of fighters join the fray (apparently starting with Jiren from Dragon Ball Super), here are ten characters that I personally would love to see make an appearance and fight against the likes of Goku, Vegeta and co. Ten Scariest Monsters in Gravity Falls

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Gravity Falls

Gravity_Falls_Vol_1_Digital_Download

Here’s something that I’ve been meaning to write for a very long time. And with it being the week of Halloween, now is the perfect time to remind you all that Gravity Falls was a damn scary cartoon when it wanted to be. While the show saw twins Dipper and Mabel regularly dealing with all manner of paranormal phenomena during their summer vacation, they were usually just kind of weird and occasionally more humorous than threatening, like the surprisingly sophisticated Multi-Bear or the living videogame character Rumble McSkirmish.

But every once in a while, viewers would be subjected to something surprisingly and effectively creepy and/or terrifying. I’m still baffled that Disney allowed creator Alex Hirsch and the rest of the staff to include some of these monsters.

I’ve already praised the show in my review of it but let’s go deeper into the strange woods of this quiet Oregon town and get a good look at what I consider to be the scariest beings in Gravity Falls. Continue reading

Ten Echo Fighters I Want for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

4964b254f2ed70db9923fa202964f97f5272f77b

A new Super Smash Bros. game is on the way, which means the Internet is rife once more with debates and theories as to which new characters will get the chance to duke it out with Nintendo’s greatest all-stars. Though now the discussion has changed slightly thanks to the introduction of Echo Fighters.

While it might just be a fancy new term for the long maligned clone characters, people seem to have accepted this idea with fondness. This feature means we can have new characters easily join the roster as glorified palette swaps while still retaining their original personalities. So far, we have Lucina, Dark Pit and newcomer Daisy acting as Echo Fighters for Marth, Pit and Peach respectively, and fans are already wondering if we’ll see any more show up.

Of course, I have some ideas of my own that I’d love to see. So even if we don’t get any new, original characters, here are ten Echo Fighters whose inclusion would make me more than happy. Continue reading

Twenty Characters I Want Playable in Project X Zone 3

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for the following games:

God Eater
Project X Zone
Project X Zone 2
Solatorobo: Red the Hunter
Street Fighter V
Xenoblade Chronicles

What better way to round up this month of Project X Zone 2 rambling than a wish list of characters for a possible sequel? Back in 2014, the chances of my new favourite crossover game getting a sequel seemed pretty slim. Now, though, the odds seem slightly stronger, with producer Kensuke Tsukanaka even saying he wants to continue the series.

Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long for a third title but I’m optimistic (or maybe just delusional) that it will happen, and when it does, I’ll have my fingers crossed that at least some of these characters will make an appearance.

My only rules are that they have to be brand new characters (so no characters that appeared in either PXZ or Namco X Capcom), no characters that were already on the previous list I did and they have to be from Capcom, Sega, Bandai Namco or Nintendo IPs. Continue reading

Ten Favourite Characters in Project X Zone 2

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for the following games:

Project X Zone 2
Tales of Vesperia
Xenoblade Chronicles

As I wrote in last week’s review, Project X Zone 2 has an arguably stronger cast of characters than its predecessor, with a healthy mix of familiar and not-so familiar faces. For some players, this game is the first time even seeing some of these characters, which means they need to make strong first impressions – they need to make us want to know more about them. And I’d say they certainly succeeded.

So, just because I did this last time, here are my personal ten favourite characters from the game. My one rule is that they have to be “new” characters, so no characters that also appeared in the first game. Continue reading

Ten Pokémon That Should Be in Pokkén Tournament – Part 2

2926246-pokken_logo

About a couple of years ago, I wrote an article about some of the Pokémon I would personally love to see in the then upcoming fighting game Pokkén Tournament. Now the game is out on the Wii U for everyone to enjoy and, I have to say, I quite liked the roster it has. Some people have complained that it’s too small and some of the character choices don’t make sense (i.e. two Pikachus and two Mewtwos) but I felt it was decent enough, with a good balance of the popular and the unexpected.

That’s not to say, though, that I wouldn’t want to see more playable Pokémon appear either as DLC or in a potential sequel. And now that I’ve actually played the game, I’ve got a better understanding of how the developers ultimately chose which Pokémon to put in. There’s a lot more potential here than you might think. So, here’s a sequel to that aforementioned article with ten more ideas for playable characters. Continue reading

Five Scariest Batman Villains from the Arkham Games

(WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Batman: Arkham City Batman: Arkham Knight)

Batman is famous for a lot of things; one of them being his quite frankly impressive rogues gallery. He arguably has some of the best villains in all of comic books (there’s a reason they keep popping up in other media). He also has some of the scariest or, at the very least, creepiest, especially in the Arkham games. One of my favourite aspects of the series was seeing their take on the many bad guys of Gotham, how they’re integrated and being able to beat the crap out of them. So, here’s my personal list of who I consider to be the scariest villains from those games.

Oh and just a heads up, Scarecrow’s not on this list. I want to mix things up a bit. Continue reading

Ten Characters I Want in Super Smash Bros

(originally posted April 17th 2015)

Who should be playable in the next Super Smash Bros? It’s a question that many have asked and even more have answered. Every time a new instalment is announced, people immediately begin debating as to who should make the cut. No other fighting game series seems to generate this much discussion. Smash Bros is kind of like the videogame equivalent of Hollywood; everyone’s desperate to make it there. Continue reading
