The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is probably a contender for creepiest Zelda game ever; something I think many of its fans will attest to. There are plenty of perfect examples for why that is so here’s a musical one: the theme for the game’s main villain, Majora.

Whereas Ganondorf always had this air of sophistication and grandeur to him (thanks to both his personality and music), Majora is just psychotic – a being that hungers only for chaos. This theme captures that perfectly; it’s not grandiose or trying to make a point. Majora is just presenting itself as what it is. It’s just haunting, with a slight tinge of what could be childish glee – a perfect representation of the Skull Kid, the poor sap that’s allowed himself to be corrupted by the mask.

The other Zelda bad guys may not have the staying power of Ganondorf but they’ve carved their own legacies and remain popular and with this music, Majora will make sure it remains in your mind for as long as you live.
