I love this movie. I love it so damn much. It wasn’t always like that, though. When I first found out that a Lego movie was being made, I rolled my eyes and let out one hell of an exasperated sigh. The film synopsis didn’t inspire confidence. It sounded like the most generic child pandering I’d ever heard. Then the trailers came out. “Huh?” I thought, “This doesn’t look that bad. Actually seems pretty funny.” So, I watched it, expecting a basic but entertaining romp. What did I get? Something amazing. So here’s a list of everything that is awesome with this movie. Ten Pokémon That Should Be in Pokkén Tournament

(originally posted September 12th 2014)

With the announcement of a ‘Pokémon’ fighting game being developed by Namco Bandai, there is much excitement to see which mons will make the cut, for good reason. Even as someone who sucks at most fighting games, being able to control some of my favourite Pokémon in a ‘Tekken’ style fighter is something I can totally get behind. So, here are my personal picks of potential playable Pokémon. Continue reading

Despicable Me 2 – Something a Bit More Conventional

(originally posted September 5th 2014)

As soon as I finished watching ‘Despicable Me,’ I immediately jumped over to the sequel. Usually, sequels nowadays make me slightly wary, especially for films aimed at younger audiences. It’s just all too easy for the film makers to just do the same thing again and rehash all the popular jokes. But, ‘Despicable Me 2’ is more akin to the likes of ‘Toy Story 2’ and ‘Shrek 2’ in that it actually succeeds in being not only as good as the first film, but maybe even better. Continue reading

Despicable Me – Being a Dad Ain’t That Bad

‘Despicable Me’ was one of those animated films that just passed me by. I took one look at a brief trailer and just went “Nope, looks garbage.” But then, I heard nothing but good things about it. I began to question myself – were the huddled masses even more gullible than I thought or was I being too presumptuous? Then the sequel came out and everyone went on about how it was even better. I decided to make it my mission to watch these two films and see just what made them so good. Continue reading

Ten of My Favourite Beast Wars Episodes

(originally posted July 25th 2014)

(WARNING: The following post contains spoilers for ‘Beast Wars’)

If you didn’t read last week’s post on ‘Beast Wars,’ why not? That hurts my feelings. You should read it. But if you really don’t want to, then the short version is that I love the show. So, to follow up on it, I bring you ten of my favourite episodes across the series. Continue reading

My History with Transformers Part 1 – Beast Wars

(originally posted July 18th 2014)

With the latest of Michael Bay’s live-action ‘Transformers’ films out, making undeserved millions of dollars, I found myself turning towards the shows that made me fall in love with the franchise in the first place. So, rather than waste my time talking about why the Bay films suck, I’m going to spend it on the material that deserves to be talked about – three of them to be exact, and we’re gonna kick off with the very first ‘Transformers’ show I ever watched: ‘Beast Wars.’ Continue reading

RWBY Volume 1 – Kickass Anime Action or Disappointingly Mediocre?

The second season (or volume) of Rooster Teeth’s animated show ‘RWBY,’ created by famous internet animator, Monty Oum, is almost upon us now, so what better chance is there than to discuss the first volume? Have my original thoughts on the show changed since my first viewing? Well, that’s what this post is about, isn’t it? Read on as I break down the positives and the negatives to determine my feelings on Oum’s pet project. Continue reading

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX – Why I’m Excited

I have a very odd relationship with the ‘Kingdom Hearts’ series. Despite my frustration at some of its themes and its overall plot in general, any new information regarding the franchise excites me. The first ‘Kingdom Hearts III’ trailer made me squeal like a girl and the more recent trailer for the upcoming ‘2.5’ left me with a wide grin on my face. Maybe it’s the nostalgia or the fact that the good of the series outweighs the bad – whatever the reason, I still enjoy the series, and I’m especially looking forward to the aforementioned remakes. Enchanted – Disney Does Disney

(originally posted June 27th 2014)

Enchanted

I don’t know exactly when the idea of Disney parodies started, but they have existed for a very long time. We’ve all seen them, and we’ve all probably made jokes about the atypical Disney film. So, what happens when the company itself decides to make one? Well, you get ‘Enchanted,’ a hybrid of live-action and animation released in 2007. Continue reading

Five Great Racing Games That Aren’t Mario Kart

(originally posted June 20th 2014)

So, how about that ‘Mario Kart 8,’ eh? One of the most hyped games of 2014; one that increased Wii U sales by 666% (truly work of Satan himself). I can safely say it is one of the best ‘MK’ games I’ve played – maybe even the best. But you know where you are with ‘Mario Kart.’ Every game has been at least of decent quality (except for the GBA one) – with ‘Mario Kart,’ fans of the mascot racing genre can sleep easily.

But imagine, if you will, that ‘Mario Kart’ never existed. Maybe somewhere, in a parallel universe or alternate history, Nintendo never considered sticking their mascot in a go-kart. It’s a grim and terrifying image, I know, but do not worry, because even without it, there are plenty of great cartoony racing games that can fill up an evening with friends, and here are five of them.
