The Ten Best Videogames Ever Made (April Fools)

It’s been over two years since I started writing these articles, and I think it’s about time I did something I’ve wanted to do for ages – write a list about the best videogames ever made.

Now, this isn’t an opinion piece or anything. This is 100% factual. The raw truth. Because, let’s be honest, all those other “Top Whatever Videogames Ever Made” are all bullshit and built on lies and biased views. This list is completely unbiased and is actually written by somebody who truly understands videogames. I mean, have you seen all those other lists? They just put the same games on them over and over again; games that were never that good to begin with and are only considered good because they got a billion good reviews that were probably bought anyway.

But enough ranting. Let’s actually get to what matters – the ten best videogames to have ever been made, in order of their release. Continue reading

Thirty of My Favourite Pokémon Ever

English_Pokémon_logo.svg

Can you believe it’s Pokémon‘s 20th anniversary? When I really think about it, it’s almost surreal that this franchise based around enslaving fantasy monsters to do battle with other fantasy monsters has been going on for that long. I’ve grown up with it since almost the beginning; the first videogame I ever owned was a copy of Pokémon Yellow and I watched the original series of the anime almost religiously. It’s just weird to see something that I loved as a child still be around and relevant today. It’s even weirder to see how many Pokémon actually exist now.

I remember when the 3rd Generation of games were coming out and I was worried about remembering all of these creatures. There’s now over 700 of the bloody things and I reckon if you showed me a picture of any of them, I could name them easily. I may not remember basic maths but I sure can tell the difference between a Magikarp and a Feebas.

With this many Pokémon, it’s not that hard for a fan to list off a few of their personal favourites. I, however, would like to share thirty of my favourite Pokémon – five from each of the six generations. Let’s not waste anymore time and dive right in (hope you’ve got the right HM). Six Nintendo Franchises That Should Get Anime Adaptations

So, yeah, remember several months ago when I wrote an article about what Nintendo franchises should get movie adaptations? Well, if a recent interview with Nintendo’s President is anything to go by, Nintendo will also be expanding into other markets – including anime.

For years, fans could only dream of seeing their favourite Nintendo characters appear in this format (with many fan artists having their own goes at it). Of course, it’s not like Nintendo are inexperienced in this kind of thing. Let’s never forget the Mario and Legend of Zelda cartoons, but the quality of those shows were… questionable at best and flat out terrible at worst. Hopefully, in this modern era, Nintendo can make the right choices to create new adventures for its beloved characters.

For now, though, let’s open the floodgates for discussion as I list some franchises that I think would make either great or, at the very least, enjoyable anime. Continue reading

Ten Anticipated Games of 2016

Well, 2015 is officially over, and what a year it has been for the world of videogames. We had a lot of fantastic titles released in the last twelve months; fans of The Witcher were treated to a fantastic third title that showed that DLC didn’t have to be terrible, Nintendo made a successful jump into the world of online-shooters with Splatoon, and the Internet found a new favourite game ever in the form of Undertale. Continue reading

Five Franchises that should get Platinum Games

platinum-games-logo

Platinum has come a long way in only a few years. Their work on the likes of Bayonetta and Madworld has garnered them a massive fanbase and a reputation for making exciting, action-packed and over-the-top videogames. And in the last couple of years, they’ve been allowed to create games based on existing properties.

We’ve seen The Legend of KorraMetal Gear and Transformers be given the Platinum treatment and, at the moment, they’re working alongside Nintendo on the new StarFox and are apparently working on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.

All of this has made me wonder what other franchises should Platinum be allowed to make magic with? Well, that’s what this list is about, isn’t it? Continue reading

Four Ideas for the Next Batman Game

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Batman: Arkham Knight

With Rocksteady choosing to bow out and end the Arkham series, we find ourselves asking the obvious question: what comes next? As long as Batman remains popular, there will always be videogame tie-ins and considering how much money Warner Bros has made from the Arkham games, it’s unlikely they’re just going to let the series end.

Whether or not the games will continue in the same universe, play like the Arkham games or carve their own identity remains to be seen, but we all probably have some ideas we’d love to see become proper games, so to conclude this month of Batman, here’s a short list of my personal ideas for future Batman games. Eight Things I Liked about the Arkham Series

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for the following games:

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham City
Batman: Arkham Origins
Batman: Arkham Knight

Last week, I wrote an article all about things I didn’t like about the Arkham games. If you chose not to read the first paragraph of that article, I should clarify that I absolutely loved the series and it has left me with some great memories to share. So, in the sake of fairness, here’s a list of things that I liked from the main four games. Continue reading

Eight Things I Didn’t Like about the Arkham Series

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for the following games:

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham City
Batman: Arkham Origins
Batman: Arkham Knight

There’s no denying that Rocksteady have created a consistently good series with their Batman games. At best, they have been amazing and at worst, they’ve been decent. Unfortunately, as we all know, nothing is perfect and even games as good as these have their problems. And here, I’ve picked out eight of those problems; two for each of the main entries – Arkham AsylumArkham CityArkham Origins and Arkham Knight. Continue reading

Five Scariest Batman Villains from the Arkham Games

(WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Batman: Arkham City Batman: Arkham Knight)

Batman is famous for a lot of things; one of them being his quite frankly impressive rogues gallery. He arguably has some of the best villains in all of comic books (there’s a reason they keep popping up in other media). He also has some of the scariest or, at the very least, creepiest, especially in the Arkham games. One of my favourite aspects of the series was seeing their take on the many bad guys of Gotham, how they’re integrated and being able to beat the crap out of them. So, here’s my personal list of who I consider to be the scariest villains from those games.

Oh and just a heads up, Scarecrow’s not on this list. I want to mix things up a bit. Continue reading

Five Nintendo Franchises That Should Get Movies

Videogame movies. We’ve all seen at least one and they have tended to range from passable to “Oh God this film is stabbing me in the soul and makes me want to vomit up my own intestines.” It’s probably for these reasons that Nintendo has very much kept its beloved characters away from the silver screen (though the failure that was the Super Mario Bros. movie probably helped).

Opinion on whether this is a good or bad thing seems split but with Shigeru Miyamoto’s recent announcement of them considering possible film adaptations, this naturally calls for speculation. So, here are five Nintendo franchises that I think could lend well to becoming films. Continue reading
