Cardcaptor Sakura – Why Did I Watch This Show?

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Cardcaptor Sakura

No, serious question. Why DID I watch Cardcaptor Sakura? I should clarify; I’m not asking this in a “Why did I waste my time watching this” way. I’m just wondering what made me get into the show in the first place. I mean, have you even seen a single image of Cardcaptor Sakura? It doesn’t exactly seem like the kind of thing that’s aimed at guys in their 20’s. Yet, I’ve watched it, and I like it. With a new manga and anime apparently in the works, I figured now would be a good opportunity to write about this show and wax nostalgic about it. Six Nintendo Franchises That Should Get Anime Adaptations

So, yeah, remember several months ago when I wrote an article about what Nintendo franchises should get movie adaptations? Well, if a recent interview with Nintendo’s President is anything to go by, Nintendo will also be expanding into other markets – including anime.

For years, fans could only dream of seeing their favourite Nintendo characters appear in this format (with many fan artists having their own goes at it). Of course, it’s not like Nintendo are inexperienced in this kind of thing. Let’s never forget the Mario and Legend of Zelda cartoons, but the quality of those shows were… questionable at best and flat out terrible at worst. Hopefully, in this modern era, Nintendo can make the right choices to create new adventures for its beloved characters.

For now, though, let’s open the floodgates for discussion as I list some franchises that I think would make either great or, at the very least, enjoyable anime. Continue reading

What I Want to See in Digimon Adventure tri.

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Digimon Adventure tri.

digimon15key

A few months ago, I wrote an article about my experience with the Digimon franchise, which was a result of me gaining an interest in the upcoming movie series Digimon Adventure tri. That series has since started with its first entry, Reunion (which was also distributed as four episodes) and, honestly, I’m hooked due to its combination of great animation, mature storytelling and sheer nostalgia.

As such, I am very excited for the rest of the series and I naturally have several things I hope to see and questions I want answered. So, here’s a quick wishlist of sorts of all the things I want to see in the future. Continue reading

RWBY Volume 2 – More Mistakes or Impressive Improvement?

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for RWBY Volume 2

RWBY_volume_2_bluray_combo

Last year, I wrote a review on the first volume of RWBY, the online animated smash hit of RoosterTeeth and the creation of the late, great Monty Oum. I had always planned to review the second volume once it was complete and with Volume 3 already several episodes in, I figured it was now or never. Let’s get things started and review the good and bad of RWBY Volume 2. Continue reading

Digimon: Digital Monsters – Digital Nostalgia (A Brief History)

WARNING: The following article contains mild spoilers for Digimon Adventure

DigimonDigitalMonsters-72241

I’m not a Digimon fan, or at the very least I haven’t been for roughly ten years. Yet when I saw the latest trailer for the upcoming Digimon Adventure tri., I found myself getting oddly excited. Clearly this is nostalgia at work but it kind of made me wonder how and when I fell out of the fandom. And for some reason I’m choosing to document this because why the hell not? So join me if you will on a trip down digital memory lane.

Six Awesome Moments in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders

StadustAnime-Promo

Last week was the finale to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, an adaptation of the manga by the same name. It’s honestly kind of hard to describe it to anyone who has no knowledge of the series because its title is so apt: it’s very bizarre. Hopefully some of you are already familiar with it but for the uninitiated, I’ll do my best to sum things up. Continue reading

The second season (or volume) of Rooster Teeth’s animated show ‘RWBY,’ created by famous internet animator, Monty Oum, is almost upon us now, so what better chance is there than to discuss the first volume? Have my original thoughts on the show changed since my first viewing? Well, that’s what this post is about, isn’t it? Read on as I break down the positives and the negatives to determine my feelings on Oum’s pet project. Continue reading

Let’s face it. You’ve probably already watched ‘Attack on Titan.’ I don’t need to tell you why you should watch it. It’s quite possibly the biggest anime in recent years, rivalling the popularity of the likes of ‘Bleach’ and ‘One Piece.’ Everywhere you go online, you’re bound to find something ‘Attack on Titan’ related. So, rather than explain why one should watch it, I shall simply give my personal thoughts on the series thus far.

Kill la Kill – Something More Than Fanservice

(originally posted April 25th 2014)

‘Kill la Kill’ is a fairly recent anime series, and one that was highly recommended to me. I didn’t really know what to expect. All I knew was that the protagonist was female, there was a lot of fanservice and it was as insane as another anime series called ‘Gurren Lagann,’ which I absolutely loved because it was so insane. After watching it, I realised that sometimes it’s good to not know what to expect, because what you’ll get will shock you to your core.
