Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3‘s soundtrack is certainly a bit of a mixed bag. As I mentioned in my review last week, a lot of it consists of rather generic orchestral tracks that aren’t particularly catchy or memorable. It’s especially disappointing since there are a quite a few tracks that manage to avoid this; tracks that are full of energy and excitement and sound… videogamey, if that makes sense. Tracks that make running down hallways while taking down the swarms of enemies that come at you all the more exciting. For example, this piece from the game’s third chapter. Continue reading

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order – Marvellous Masterpiece or Boring Button-Masher?
One game that I used to play the crap out of during my childhood was Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. A loose adaptation of the Civil War comic story-line, it was a top-down action-RPG/beat ’em up featuring a tonne of famous and not so famous heroes and villains from across the Marvel universe, enjoyable and addictive gameplay, cool character interactions, and some great replayability that had me coming back again and again, just so I could keep making all manner of different teams to play through the game as.
That game came out ten years ago and it very much seemed like a series that wasn’t going to get revived any time soon, especially with Disney now holding Marvel’s reigns. So I was pleasantly surprised to see a new, third title get announced out of nowhere. And if that wasn’t enough, Activision and Vicarious Visions were out and Nintendo and Team Ninja were in.
Suddenly, everybody was getting excited to see how this game would turn out. Aside from those big names, the roster looked great (the presence of the X-Men alone helped tremendously) and the presentation was delightfully stylish, but does the game have the substance to match it, or should this series have been left back in the late 2000s? The Entertainment Dome Episode 119 – Fire Emblem Ultimate Alliance 3 Houses
Apologies again for the lateness of this one but the most recent Entertainment Dome is now up, where James gets to gush about Fire Emblem: Three Houses and I share my first impressions of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
My VG Music Picks #62 – Nemesis Ridley (Metroid: Other M)
One thing we can always look forward to in a Metroid game is the inevitable fight with Ridley. No matter where Samus is or what she’s doing, chances are this big, purple, space dinosaur’s going to rear his ugly head and we get to enjoy putting him in the ground again. Hell, he’s so popular that they added him as an extra boss in the Metroid II remake for 3DS. And when Ridley shows up, he brings that famous theme music with him as well. Continue reading
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Beta – First Impressions
I’ve already mentioned my interest in Square Enix’s upcoming crossover fighting game for the PS4 in a recent article, but I still had some slight reservations regarding whether I could actually play the game or not. I don’t want to spend money on something that I ultimately can’t get to grips with. Fortunately, Square Enix released an open beta for the game, allowing players all over to get a taste of what it has in store.
With the beta now closed and the game due out in a few days, I figured I’d jot down my personal experiences with Dissidia to share with you all and see if this is a game anyone can pick up and enjoy or something reserved only for the most die-hard of fighting game fans. Continue reading
My VG Music Picks #20 – Skyloft (Hyrule Warriors)
If I wasn’t a Legend of Zelda fan by the time Hyrule Warriors came out, I probably would’ve been after sampling it because, my God, it looked awesome and managed to live up to said awesomeness. This included possibly the most metal soundtrack we’d ever hear in a Zelda game. Continue reading
