My VG Music Picks #88 – Puzzle Plank Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy 2)

Both Super Mario Galaxy games have amazing soundtracks, partly thanks to Nintendo using a symphonic orchestra to perform them. It’s still a crime that Nintendo never made the soundtrack CDs easily available outside of Japan (something Nintendo STILL does, seriously, people will pay you for your music). It’s actually shocking that I haven’t listed any of either games’ songs yet, so let’s rectify that. Continue reading

Ten of My Favourite Games of the Decade

I know I’m late in saying this but, damn, this really is a new decade, huh? I never even considered it until it was pointed out to me. A lot has happened in the last ten years, and after looking at some good-looking games that are coming in the future, I’d like to reminisce about all the awesome games from the past. And, boy, there were a lot.

So, since everyone else has done it and I apparently have as much originality as a live-action Disney remake, here’s a list of some of my all-time favourite games to have been released throughout the 2010s – one from each year (I’m using the European release dates BTW). Continue reading

Favourite Moments in Fiction #14 – The Deadpool Level (Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions)

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

The new Spider-Man game for PS4 has, at the time of writing, recently come out and has been a massive success, and for good reasons. It’s a fantastic game and possibly the best game to star Marvel’s web-slinging superhero. But for all the praise it’s getting, there’s still one other Spider-Man game that continues to hold a special place in my heart; one that I never see anyone else talk about – Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. Continue reading

My VG Music Picks #66 – Tomorrow Hill/Falling Off Tomorrow Hill (WarioWare: Smooth Moves)

There is a surprising amount of vocal tracks in the WarioWare series. I dunno, I just find that strange; I never would have pegged a series like this to get that kind of content. But, these lyrical pieces are not only quite fitting but are easily some of the most popular and memorable music tracks from the series (probably because they last more than five seconds).

And while there’s a certain little witch whose theme song reigns supreme above the rest, I want to shift the focus to another one for the time being – specifically Tomorrow Hill from the Wii title, Smooth Moves. Continue reading

Favourite Moments in Fiction #13 – Pikachu Electrocutes Ridley (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Untitled

Fun fact – I was originally planning to write about the scene in Metroid: Other M where Ridley appears to tie-in with last week’s VG Music Pick but, after re-watching it, I realised it wasn’t as good as I remember it being. But I wanted to do something Ridley-related so let’s quickly talk about the time he got one-shotted by Pikachu. Continue reading

My VG Music Picks #62 – Nemesis Ridley (Metroid: Other M)

One thing we can always look forward to in a Metroid game is the inevitable fight with Ridley. No matter where Samus is or what she’s doing, chances are this big, purple, space dinosaur’s going to rear his ugly head and we get to enjoy putting him in the ground again. Hell, he’s so popular that they added him as an extra boss in the Metroid II remake for 3DS. And when Ridley shows up, he brings that famous theme music with him as well. Continue reading
