Project X Zone 2 – The Best Videogame Crossover Ever?

project_x_zone_thumbnail

Back in October 2014 (a time when I was still writing this stuff on Tumblr), I dedicated the entire month to writing articles about Project X Zone, a crossover, tactical RPG on the 3DS featuring characters from Capcom, Sega and Namco franchises. It quickly became one of my favourite games ever upon playing it and I just wanted, nay, needed to express that love somewhere (you can check out said articles here). So, you can probably guess how I felt when a sequel was announced (spoilers: there was a lot of screaming).

Said sequel, Project X Zone 2, was released in the West in February 2016 so, one year later, I’m doing this shit again because (unsurprisingly) I love the sequel too. But is it an improvement over its predecessor or is it just the same game with only the most minute of differences? Well, that’s what a review’s for, isn’t it? Continue reading

The Entertainment Dome Episode 46 – Mass Effect: The Force Awakens

This week on The Entertainment Dome, James and I finally take our hype goggles off and actually try to criticise RWBY Volume 4 with its penultimate episode, before moving on to James fan-boying over the newest Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer and a weird Dragon Ball Super ramble despite neither of us watching the show.

A Whole New World: A Twisted Tale – A Dark, Edgy Fan-Fic That’s Good?

If you were told that Disney’s Aladdin was getting a “dark, mature” remake, you’d probably burn me alive for even mentioning it, followed by looking for more details online just so you can become even more incomprehensibly angry over the fact that it exists. And rightly so. These “mature” remakes usually come out as cynical messes that have clearly been created by people with no understanding of the original source material and just wanted to make some easy cash.

Which is why, for now, I want you to refrain from tracking me down with pitchforks and torches when I say that this particular “dark, mature” remake is actually quite good. How good? Well, I read all 380 pages of it in a single night so that’s got to say something, right? Continue reading

My VG Music Picks #40 – Theme of Bayonetta 2 – Tomorrow Is Mine (Bayonetta 2)

When it comes to having a recurring theme for battles in a videogame, you need to make sure that said theme is catchy. Since the player is going to be listening to it on a regular basis, it’s important that it doesn’t drive them crazy because it’s repetitive or boring or just bad. The people that made this song clearly knew this, which is why it’s so good. Continue reading

Remember that one article where I wrote about some of the most kick-ass moments from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders? Well, I’m doing it again, only this time, it’s about the anime’s fourth chapter that finished last month – Diamond Is Unbreakable. So, if you’re unfamiliar with the series’ premise or the concept of Stands, go read the Stardust Crusaders one first because I don’t want to repeat myself here, but I’ll give a quick rundown of DIU‘s plot.

In 1999, in the quiet Japanese town of Morioh, our new protagonist, Josuke Higashikata, is approached by Jotaro Kujo (from the previous series) and learns that he is part of the Joestar legacy and, thus, is in possession of a Stand of his own named Crazy Diamond. Jotaro is on the hunt for a mysterious bow and arrow, which is capable of granting people Stands. Continue reading

Ten Anticipated Games of 2017

I’m just gonna get this out of the way – 2016 sucked. I don’t specifically mean in terms of videogames either – it just sucked, both in general and on a personal level. It’s easy to take one look at the state of the world and think that there’s no point anymore; it’s easy to just give up and lock ourselves away and wallow in our own misery.

But while it is important to be aware and not be ignorant to what’s going on outside, it’s also important to still enjoy yourselves; it’s important to make yourself happy. There’s no shame in allowing yourself to feel joy, whether you get that feeling from family, friends, music, films and, of course, videogames. Continue reading
