The Entertainment Dome Episode 59 – A Ubi-Soft Touch

This week on The Entertainment Dome, we discuss what we’d like to see in the now confirmed Life is Strange sequel, as well as some of Ubisoft’s upcoming projects, including the Mario/Rabbids crossover and James needs to censor me when I make a boo-boo live on air (apologies for the background noise).

Let’s Play Orwell: Episode 1 – It All Begins Here

We finally did it. After years of talking about it, my Entertainment Dome co-host James and I have contributed to the over-saturated world of Let’s Plays; starting with puzzle game Orwell.

Set in a 1984-style world, we must use the Orwell system to hack into emails, listen in on phone calls and just generally spy on people to prevent acts of terrorism. Political stances are taken and tangents are made as we start our first day on the job.

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep

A few weeks ago, I ranked the Kingdom Hearts series to see which games I considered the best. However, I omitted a couple of entries; one of them being Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- (dear RPG makers, stop making your titles so damn long). The reason for its omission was because it ultimately wasn’t a full game and was only included on the 2.8 collection as a teaser of sorts for Kingdom Hearts III.

It very nearly was included, though; it actually would’ve been third in the rankings. That’s pretty high up for what’s really just a glorified tech demo, and that’s because, despite its short length, it’s pretty damn good. So, I figured I’d give it it’s own review to make up for it being left out. Continue reading

Favourite Moments in Fiction #5 – Friend Like Me (Aladdin)

maxresdefault

Despite being one of the key films of Disney’s original Renaissance period, I never considered Aladdin to be one of my all-time favourites. Don’t get me wrong; it’s a great movie but I could probably list off ten other Disney films that I like more. But I have recently found myself gradually falling in love with its musical numbers; particularly today’s focus. Continue reading

My VG Music Picks #44 – Trip through Sequin Land (Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse)

I only recently got around to giving the Shantae games a shot and, while not mind-blowing levels of good, I certainly enjoyed what I played and I see why so many love this series. I’m not sure if starting with the third game in the series was a good idea, but I had heard good reviews and was able to get it on the Wii U at a discount and figured “Eh, why not?”

I certainly dug the game’s aesthetics – a sort of modern take on the retro 8-bit style – and developer Wayforward had brought back composer Jake Kaufman (who had worked on several of their previous games) to provide the tunes. Kaufman seems to be one of those composers who can do now wrong in the eyes of fans. Don’t believe me? Then just listen to this piece. Continue reading
